Olympic activities to keep the kids entertained!
The summer holidays are long, and it can be difficult to keep them entertained every day. Are you fed up with hearing them say ‘I’m bored, there’s nothing to do’? Well, hopefully our Olympic themed activities will keep them entertained, even if it’s just for five minutes.
With a bit of imagination and a few household items, you can transform your house into an Olympic stadium before you know it. So, grab your flags and medals, and let the home Olympics begin!
Inside Obstacle Race
Create a safe space in a room or outside if the weather is nice and create your obstacle race.
- Pillow Jumping: they must jump over stacks of pillows for the high jump and rows of pillows for the long jump
- Sock toss: grab some socks and your washing basket and see how many they can get in (you could use this to motivate them to tidy their rooms, I am sure there are plenty of clothes which can be tossed into the washing basket)
- Indoor bowling: grab some empty plastic bottles which were about to go in the recycling bin and get a soft ball for them to see how many they can knock over.
Making the Olympic torch
The Spruce Crafts have come up with a great activity on how to make the Olympic torch, take a look and share your designs with us on Instagram @Dishmatic: How to Make an Olympic Torch Kids’ Craft (thesprucecrafts.com)
Create the Olympic rings
They can make their own Olympic rings, all you need is some paper plates or paper, they can then colour them in and stick them together, ready for their very own Olympic games.

Olympic Medals
Before they start doing their obstacle race or helping you with your Dishlympic cleaning challenges they can make medals which can be handed out. Rainy Day Mum has come up with a fantastic way to do this: Olympics Medals – Simple Summer Craft for Kids to Make (rainydaymum.co.uk)
Flag making
A great way to keep them busy and educational is to create the different flags which will be at the Olympics. 206 countries will be competing in the Olympics, so this is a few days of drawing and colouring… They can then wave them when they see them competing.
Kids yoga
A super easy way to keep them entertained is through finding a kids Yoga video on YouTube. Just make sure you’ve cleared an area for them to do it, we don’t want any downwards dogs breaking your vases!
We would love to know your tips and tricks for keeping kids entertained over the summer holidays. Please share them with us on Instagram and Facebook @Dishmatic.
