Our guide to getting all your pre-Christmas cleaning done.

Christmas is on its way!

Are you planning to host a Christmas party or spend Christmas Day with the whole family?

If you are, you may want to tidy up before the guests arrive.

But with so much to do, Christmas cleaning can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve made a list (and we’ve checked it twice) of handy pre-Christmas cleaning tasks to ensure your cleaning and home can stay in order this festive season.

Guest Bedroom Pre-Christmas Cleaning

If you have a spare or guest room, the temptation may be to use it for… “storage”.

However, around this time of year, ensure your spare bedroom(s) are cleaned for any unexpected overnight guests.

When cleaning your spare bedroom, remember to:

  • Change the sheets/bedding & duvets so they are clean and fresh for your guests.
  • Dust every surface with Dishmatic Tear N Wipe microfibre roll!
  • Vacuum the floor
  • Empty at least some of the wardrobe and drawers of anything stored in them ( usually all of your summer clothes! ). This will ensure your guest has sufficient space and will feel more at home instead of living out of their suitcase

Kids Bedroom Pre-Christmas Cleaning

If you don’t have a guest bedroom then maybe your guest will temporarily occupy your kids’ bedroom/s!

Start with decluttering old toys.

It’s hard to declutter baby items, toddler toys, and the beloved dolls you hoped they would play with forever.

Kids grow up though, and there is just so much space in a house for them. So before Father Christmas arrives, It is always good to get rid of toys that are no longer played with, to make space for the new ones. This will make your house cleaning task quicker and easier too!

When this is done, just as per the guest bedrooms, Change the sheets/bedding & duvets so they are clean and fresh for your guests. Vacuum and dust the room and make some space in the wardrobe and/or on the floor for any suitcase.

Kitchen Pre-Christmas Cleaning

The kitchen is usually the centre of the action at Christmas.

Oven

First, your oven should be clean to ensure it’s ready for the juicy turkey or tasty nut roast!

  • Buy an oven cleaning product and follow the instructions on the label, as there are lots of different products you can use .
  • Remove and soak the racks in boiling water with a little dishwasher detergent. After soaking for two hours, scrub the racks with a Dishmatic Scrubbee, rinse, and dry before returning them to the oven.

Fridge

A clean and less cluttered fridge will allow space for all pigs in blankets, wine and pudding! To have a clean fridge for all of your Christmas food

  • Remove all food, drawers and shelves
  • Soak drawers and shelves in washing up liquid and use Dishmatic fillable handle to make them sparkling clean
  • Use warm water and washing-up liquid to wipe the interior – we recommend using our Miracle Mop it ; With its12-layer design and the ability to absorb 5 times its weight, it effortlessly handles even the worst mess!
  • Wipe outer surfaces and dry inside with a microfibre cloth or pad. Why not try our Multipurpose Cloths easy to use and completely lint free!
  • Dry and return the drawers/shelves

Sink and Surfaces

Keep surfaces clean by wiping them down with a solution of washing-up liquid and hot water or use an anti-bacterial all-purpose kitchen spray.  Dry with a microfibre cloth – you can use Dishmatic Tear n’Wipes microfibre cloths that combine microfibre antibacterial properties with the convenience of being on a roll just like their kitchen paper counterparts.

Deep clean your sink by sprinkling baking soda all over the sink basin, let it sit for a few minutes, scrub then rinse clean with warm water. To help you out with this task, we suggesting using Dishmatic Wonder Wand with its Flexi-Fibre non scratch XL spear head which changes texture depending on the water temperature.

Whether you are planning to use old crockery and glasses, or going for your everyday set, to wash your dishes, look no further than Dishmatic fillable handle!  With different heads refill to adjust to different surfaces – from general purpose to non scratch – find them in our online shop or in most stores across the UK.

Bathroom Pre-Christmas Cleaning

Pre-cleaning the bathroom and maintaining cleanliness throughout the holidays are vital, especially when you are expecting guests. Have you noticed those grubby finger marks and streaks? Many hands may touch your bathroom mirror over time, so don’t forget to clean it regularly! Clean the bathroom from top to bottom including the sink, bath, shower, toilet, floors and cupboards.

Our Dishmatic Wonder Scrub is ideal for showers, baths, tiles and sinks. The scourer side cuts through soap scum, while the sponge side wipes and cleans for a brilliant shine around your bathroom.

Pour some heavy-duty toilet cleaner into the toilet bowl and let it soak in while disinfecting the rest of the bathroom . Make sure to wipe down the tiles and sink to remove any built-up grime and bacteria.

Don’t forget to leave space for your guest’s toiletries and some fresh towels to make them feel right at home!

Living Room Pre-Christmas Cleaning

Your living room is the social and board gaming hub, so make sure it’s cozy and comfortable to be in

  • Vacuum your living room carpet before your guests arrive and during their stay, depending on how long they’re there for
  • Vacuum all of your upholstery and cushions
  • Have a general tidy-up and, if you have time, a bit of a declutter of things you don’t need during the winter period

Prepare your dining table and make sure there is chairs for everyone! If you plan to use your family heirloom tablecloth (the one that comes out once a year for Christmas) make sure it is clean and ready to go.

If your guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in your living room, make sure you check and clean underneath it and in all the nooks and crannies. It would be a nice touch to provide your guests with some space where to keep their belongings

Home Exterior Pre-Christmas Cleaning

Ensure the outside of your house looks welcoming for your guests and any neighbours that might pop around to wish you a Merry Christmas.

  • Clean your outside decorations just by wiping them with a dry cloth
  • Clean your windows on the inside and outside
  • Ensure, if you have a drive, you’ve left enough space for your guest’s car/s or, if it’s on-street parking, there is enough space for them.
